Collection: Kurtzmann Pianos

Founded in 1848 by Christian Kurtzmann in Buffalo, New York, C. Kurtzmann & Company is one of the oldest piano makers in the United States. Initially starting his piano-making business on Staats Street, Kurtzmann later moved to a new factory at Broadway and Elm in the late 1860s after dissolving his partnership with Hinze. Kurtzmann pianos quickly gained a reputation for their high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Kurtzmann pianos are celebrated for their exquisite cabinetry, often crafted with skillfully matched mahogany and walnut veneers. The company produced a wide range of piano styles, including upright, square grand, grand, baby grand, and player pianos. These instruments were renowned for their durability and the "sweetness of tone" they produced.

By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Kurtzmann pianos were a symbol of high society, gracing concert halls, elite hotels, and affluent homes. In 1935, the Wurlitzer Company acquired Kurtzmann and continued producing pianos under the Kurtzmann name until 1938. Though no longer in production, Kurtzmann pianos are still appreciated today for their unique blend of aesthetic beauty and musical excellence, making them cherished heirlooms in many families​.
