What Is QRS Silent Play?

QRS Silent Play is a technology system installed into an acoustic piano that allows you to practice through headphones.

When Silent Play is activated, the acoustic sound of the piano is stopped before the hammers strike the strings. Sensors detect what you're playing and translate your performance into a digital piano sound that you hear through headphones.

The result is something a traditional digital piano can't quite duplicate:

You're still playing your acoustic piano.

You keep the familiar keyboard, action, key movement, and physical connection to the instrument you already love—while gaining the convenience of private practice.

Switch Silent Play off, and your piano returns to normal acoustic playing.

Keep the Piano You Already Love

One of our favorite things about Silent Play is that you don't necessarily need to replace your piano to gain modern functionality.

A Silent Play system can be installed on many existing acoustic pianos, including both grand and upright pianos.

That means a beautiful family piano, a professional instrument, or even a restored heirloom can gain an entirely new way to be used.

How Does the Silent Piano Play System Work?

Play Normally

With Silent Play turned off, your piano functions as the acoustic instrument you've always known.

Activate Silent Play

Engage the system to prevent the hammers from striking the strings.

Put On Your Headphones

Sensors capture your playing and produce the digital piano sound through your headphones.

Keep Playing Your Real Piano

You're still sitting at the same instrument and playing the same acoustic piano action—just without filling the room with sound.

When you're ready for acoustic sound again, switch back.

Yes! Your piano can be equipped with QRS Silent Play, MIDI capabilities, and a QRS PNOmation player system.

That means you can practice privately with headphones, connect your piano to compatible digital devices and software, and even have your acoustic piano play itself.

How does the Silent Play System work?

When Silent Play is turned off, you can play and enjoy your acoustic piano normally.

When activated, the system prevents the hammers from striking the strings and lets you hear your playing privately through headphones.
