Collection: Schaeffer Pianos

The Schaeffer Piano Manufacturing Company was founded by William Schaeffer in 1873 in New York. Due to early success, the company moved to larger facilities in Chicago, Illinois, in 1888. Schaeffer pianos quickly gained a reputation for their high-quality craftsmanship and beautiful tone. These pianos were produced in large quantities during the early 20th century, thanks to the company's high-volume production capabilities. This allowed Schaeffer to build a significant number of well-made pianos during the 'teens and 'twenties era.

Schaeffer pianos were known for their robust construction and rich, resonant sound. The company marketed their instruments under various names, including the Stodard Piano Company, and sold many of their pianos wholesale to other dealers who rebranded them. By the 1920s, the company was purchased by W.F. Frederick's Music House and later by the Price & Teeple Piano Company. The Schaeffer brand name was eventually discontinued around 1931 due to the economic hardships of the Great Depression.

Despite ceasing production, Schaeffer pianos remain appreciated for their historical significance and solid construction. Many of these pianos have come through restoration shops and are valued for their durability and sound quality, making them prized possessions for collectors and musicians alike​.
