Schafer & Sons was founded by Vern Schafer in 1955 in Colton, California. Initially, the company produced pianos in collaboration with the Currier Piano Company. Over time, Schafer & Sons formed partnerships with several prominent piano manufacturers, including Kohler & Campbell, Kimball, Aeolian, Schimmel, and Wurlitzer. This extensive collaboration allowed them to offer a diverse range of pianos, from uprights and grands to player pianos.

In the 1970s, Schafer & Sons produced the "Classic" console piano, which became one of their most popular models. From 1974 to 1989, Schafer & Sons partnered with the Korean firm Samick, and from 1990 to 2005, their pianos were primarily manufactured by Young Chang. This period marked significant growth for the company, with Schafer & Sons pianos being produced in large quantities and distributed widely.

Schafer & Sons pianos are known for their robust construction, reliable performance, and pleasing aesthetics.
