The A.M. McPhail Piano Company, established in 1837 by Andrew McPhail in Boston, Massachusetts, quickly became one of the prominent piano manufacturers in America. The company was incorporated in 1891, and by the 1860s, McPhail was producing pianos in Boston, including several high-grade and elaborate models that were particularly popular during the Civil War era.
