Heller & Co. Pianos, originally established by Gottlieb Heller in 1899 in New York City, evolved into the Winter Piano Company after its acquisition by Julius Winter in 1901. Known for its robust and innovative pianos, the company distinguished itself during the piano boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Winter and Company continued the legacy of Heller pianos, maintaining their reputation for quality and durability. They were particularly known for introducing the "Master Player" piano and the revolutionary "Winter Musette," a spinet-style piano that became popular in the 1930s for fitting modern interior designs. The company was absorbed into the Aeolian-American Corporation during the Great Depression, which continued to produce pianos under the Winter brand until the 1980s.
