Henry Herbert

The Martens Family Piano!

The Martens Family Piano!

My piano is  Henry Herbert piano was manufactured by Mason & Risch Piano Limited Toronto.  I believe was made in the late 1800's.  There is a number on the board - 3294.  I believe the piano stool is not a match with the piano.  I've been told the stool is worth more than the piano.  I looked hard for pictures of me playing the piano.  Neither my parents nor my husband and I grew up taking a lot of pictures like people do today.  I've included the one I picture of me I found with the piano in Grade 6 to verify it's been in my life for a long time.

I am Canadian, born in 1969. In 1975, my Dad came home with a piano for the family.  I remember my uncle who was a piano mover at the time, unloading this beautiful, incredibly HEAVY piano by himself.  He strapped it to his back and carried it up 5 steps into our home at the time.  I thought he was Superman.  As a child of 5, I fell in love  with the piano immediately as I have loved music as long as I can remember.  I believe I have a Grandpa who is musical, but other than that I don't know where this love of music came from.  I remember a Great Uncle who used to visit and give me $5 if I would play a tune on our 'new' piano for him.  I have 2 sisters and all 3 of us were enrolled in piano lessons, but I was the only one who endured past 1 year.  Financially, our family went through some lean years and I am more than grateful to my parents for finding creative ways to keep me in piano lessons for 8 years.

I grew up and moved out on my own several provinces away.  A few years later, my parents were also in the process of making a large move. I remember the day my piano arrived in our home.  It was like a reconnection with my dearest friend who had been with me.  I hadn't played for a few years, but with some practice, I started playing in our local church.

She's a beautiful old gal, but both the body and the board require repairs. The keys are completely ivory and there is only one significant chip on them. The keys are in remarkably good shape for the age.  I'd love to brush up on my skills and start playing in our community again.  There are still lots of opportunities in the personal care home and churches for a pianist. My husband has worked most of his life as a Music Pastor in church and is an established musician as well.  A revitalized piano would bring much life and pleasure to both of us as well as our community.

"I have a 45 year old piano that has a great deal of sentimental value as it is the piano my dad gave me as a young girl. Me and my children have learned to love and play music at this piano. Unfortunately, the piano had taken a beating as we have moved cross country multiple times. My dad recently passed away and I wanted to restore the piano. A friend of mine recommended Brigham Larson Pianos and I’m so glad she did. The entire restoration process has been amazing. They listened to what I wanted, made recommendations and kept me updated every step of the way. Today they delivered my piano and I am thrilled with the restoration! It is absolutely beautiful and is exactly what I envisioned! From pickup to delivery the people at Brigham Larson Pianos have been extraordinary! Thank you for restoring a piece of my childhood and a piece of my heart. It is beautiful!" —Kellie Bray

"I can't say enough good things about Brigham Larson Pianos. I inherited a baby grand piano that no one else wanted because it needed significant refurbishing. I researched my options thoroughly. I called all over the country to get estimates. Then someone recommended Brigham Larson, which was just a town away. Not only was Brigham's estimate very reasonable compared to other restorers, but the customer service was incredible. Brigram and his whole staff were great to work with. They kept me informed all along the way. And my piano turned out gorgeous! It looks beautiful and sounds fantastic! Thank you, Brigham Larson, for brining my piano back to life! It will be treasured by family for several more generations!" —Bonnye Wallace

"Brigham Larson is by far the best place for piano restoration! The entire team was kind and informative throughout the process. I was able to meet with Brigham personally and talk about the best options for restoration vs. refurbishment of a 100yr heirloom piano. I never felt pressured to do one or the other. He was honest and truly an expert. We were able to put together a custom plan to fit our family’s needs. The sound and quality is amazing. Highly recommend!" - Amy Card
