1923 Howard 51" Satin Black Upright Piano

This 1923 Howard upright is a full-size 51" piano that has been fully refurbished on the inside and refinished on the outside in a satin black cabinet.

At 51", this is a tall upright, which is important. That extra height gives you longer strings and a larger soundboard, resulting in a stronger bass, better sustain, and more overall tonal depth compared to smaller uprights.

Howard pianos from this era were built to be solid, dependable instruments. The original structure—the plate and soundboard—was designed to last, and when those core components are in good condition, they make an excellent foundation for refurbishment.

On the inside, this piano has gone through a full refurbishment process. That includes action work such as hammer shaping, regulation, alignment, and servicing throughout. The goal is to bring the touch back to a consistent, controllable feel across the keyboard.

The cabinet has been completely refinished into a satin black finish, giving it a clean, updated look while maintaining the integrity of the original build.

Tonally, this piano has a warm, balanced character with a solid bass and a clear, usable treble. For an upright, it has good presence and works well in a home or teaching environment.
